Glengoyne 1991 Whisky Barrel Head — Reclaimed Oak Cask End
£199.00
This is a genuine Glengoyne 1991 whisky barrel head — the reclaimed oak end from a Glengoyne cask, made at Dumgoyne on the Highland Line just north of Glasgow and handcrafted in Scotland into a piece of wall art. It is the barrel head exactly as it topped the cask: a solid disc of oak boards in a deep, weathered red, with the white stencil still reading 1991 · GLENGOYNE DISTILLERY · LANG BROS. LTD · DUMGOYNE · cask 4308. Glengoyne is one of the closest distilleries to my workshop near Loch Lomond, which makes this a true piece of local Highland history. It measures roughly 55 cm (about 22 in) across and arrives ready to hang.
From working cask to wall-worthy statement
I've kept this head just as it came off the cask — the original red paint and hand-stencilled markings left untouched, simply cleaned and sealed for life indoors. Nothing is over-restored or reprinted. The colour has softened and crackled with age, warm oak shows through at the bevelled edge and along the honest splits between the boards, and the white lettering has weathered gently. Those marks are the patina of time, not damage — a true one-of-a-kind reclaimed whisky barrel end, never a faux print or a reproduction.

How it fits your space
This Glengoyne 1991 whisky barrel head is whisky wall decor with real colour and story. Its bold red face anchors a home bar, a whisky snug or a study, and brings warmth to any industrial rustic interior — exposed brick, dark slate, natural timber. Hang it above the drinks cabinet, behind the bar, or as the centrepiece of a gallery wall. It pairs handsomely with my Deanston 2000 barrel head for a Highland set.
Where does this barrel head come from?
This head comes from a genuine retired Glengoyne cask, filled in 1991, from the distillery at Dumgoyne on the south-western edge of the Highlands. Glengoyne is famous for its unpeated, air-dried malt and for sitting right on the Highland Line — distilled in the Highlands, matured in the Lowlands.
What is Lang Bros Ltd, and why is it on the cask?
Lang Brothers was the Glasgow firm long tied to Glengoyne, and the Lang Bros Ltd name stayed with the distillery's casks into the early 2000s. Seeing it stencilled here alongside the 1991 date places this head firmly in that chapter of Glengoyne's story.
What do the numbers mean?
The stencil records the distillery (Glengoyne), the firm (Lang Bros Ltd), the village of Dumgoyne, the year 1991 and the cask number 4308. The smaller figure, 246, is an original marking from the cask's working life.
How big is it, and will it fit my wall?
It measures roughly 55 cm (about 22 in) across — substantial enough to hold a wall on its own, yet at home above a bar or cabinet.
Does it come ready to hang?
The barrel head arrives ready to hang, so it mounts straight onto the wall with no extra work.
How do I care for it?
Very little is needed. Keep it indoors, away from damp and direct heat, and dust it with a dry or barely-damp cloth. The sealed paintwork needs no special treatment.
Would it make a good gift?
It's the gift a whisky lover will treasure — a genuine, datable piece of Highland history rather than another generic gadget. A 1991 Glengoyne cask end suits a landmark birthday or anniversary, especially for anyone with a soft spot for the distillery near Loch Lomond.
