Glendronach 1964 Whisky Barrel Head Wall Art

Price

£249.00

This is an original Glendronach whisky barrel head, carrying the year marking 1964 and cask reference 3129. Its historical interest comes from its genuine cask origin and the identifiable distillery markings that connect this individual piece to Glendronach's working past. The deep red face, pale stencilling and worn cream rim keep that character visible. I have hand-finished the head in my one-person workshop near Loch Lomond for indoor wall display. It measures 55 cm in diameter and 4 cm deep, and is ready to hang. One original piece is available.

A cask head with its own character

The face carries THE GLENDRONACH DISTY CO LTD and GLENDRONACH lettering, alongside 1964 and 3129. The joined oak boards, visible grain, paint wear and surface marks remain part of its appearance. I work with those details, giving a working cask component a new place in the home while keeping its individual character.

Glendronach in the 1960s

The 1964 marking belongs to an interesting period in Glendronach's history. William Teacher & Sons acquired the distillery in 1960, and expanded its production capacity by increasing the number of stills from two to four. The distillery's story began much earlier: James Allardice and a partnership of local farmers founded it in 1826. Its home is the Valley of Forgue in the Scottish Highlands, and its whisky is known for sherry cask maturation. That background gives context to the lettering on this head; the marking itself does not establish the age of the wood or the whisky, or identify this particular cask's full history.

Where it works in your home

At 55 cm across, this head can sit above a drinks cabinet, beside a record collection or on a clear wall in a living room. Its deep red face gives pale walls a strong focal point, while the cream rim defines the circular shape against dark panelling or exposed stone. It also makes a personal gift for someone with a particular interest in Glendronach or Highland whisky.

This listing is for the single finished Glendronach cask head shown, with one available. A barrel head is the circular end of a cask: the purchase is the wall piece, with no whisky, furniture or room accessories included. The first three photographs show the actual head; the later room images illustrate suggested interior settings.

Frequently asked questions

What is this Glendronach wall art made from?

It is made from an original reclaimed oak Glendronach whisky barrel head, also called a cask end. I hand-finish it for indoor wall display in my workshop near Loch Lomond.

What is the historical connection to Glendronach?

The head carries the Glendronach distillery name, the year marking 1964 and cask reference 3129. The 1964 marking relates to the period after William Teacher & Sons acquired the distillery in 1960.

What do 1964 and 3129 mean on this piece?

1964 is the year marking and 3129 is the cask reference visible on the head. The year is not a whisky age statement and does not independently date the wood, paint or every mark on its surface.

What size is it, and will I receive this exact head?

It measures 55 cm in diameter and 4 cm deep, and is supplied ready to hang. Yes - this listing is for the exact finished head shown in the first three photographs, with only one available.
