Caperdonich 1968 Whisky Barrel Head Wall Art

Price

£249.00

This is an original Caperdonich whisky barrel head from a now-closed Speyside distillery, carrying the year marking 1968 and cask reference 1035. Its historical interest lies in its genuine cask origin and the identifiable markings linking this piece to Caperdonich's working past. The red face, pale stencilling and dark rim keep that character visible. I have hand-finished the head in my one-person workshop near Loch Lomond for indoor wall display. It measures 55 cm in diameter and 4 cm deep, and is ready to hang. One original piece is available.

A cask head with its own character

The face carries CAPERDONICH lettering, the numbers 1968 and 1035, and curved Grant / Glen Grant lettering above them. The joined oak boards, grain and surface marks remain part of its appearance. I work with that individual character, giving a working cask component a new place in the home.

Caperdonich in the 1960s

The 1968 marking sits close to the beginning of Caperdonich's revived era: the Rothes distillery returned to production in 1965 after a long period of silence. Originally known as Glen Grant Number 2, it was Glen Grant's sister distillery. Caperdonich closed in 2002, and its buildings were dismantled in 2011. That lost-distillery connection gives the name on this head particular meaning for a Speyside enthusiast. The marking itself does not establish the age of the wood or the whisky.

Where it works in your home

At 55 cm across, this cask head can sit above a drinks cabinet, beside a record collection or on a clear wall in a living room. Its red face gives pale walls a strong focal point, while the light lettering stands out against dark panelling or exposed brick. It also makes a personal gift for someone with a particular interest in Caperdonich, Glen Grant or Speyside's lost distilleries.

This listing is for the single finished Caperdonich cask head shown, with one available. A barrel head is the circular end of a cask: the purchase is the wall piece, with no whisky, furniture or room accessories included. The first three photographs show the actual head; the later room images illustrate suggested interior settings.

Frequently asked questions

What is this Caperdonich wall art made from?

It is made from an original reclaimed oak Caperdonich whisky barrel head, also called a cask end. I hand-finish it for indoor wall display in my workshop near Loch Lomond.

Why is the Caperdonich connection significant?

Caperdonich is a lost Speyside distillery. Its closure in 2002 and the later dismantling of its buildings give surviving cask material a connection to a distillery that no longer operates.

What do 1968 and 1035 mean on this piece?

1968 is the year marking and 1035 is the cask reference on the head. The year is not a whisky age statement and does not independently date the wood or every mark on its surface.

What size is it, and will I receive this exact head?

It measures 55 cm in diameter and 4 cm deep, and is supplied ready to hang. Yes - this listing is for the exact finished head shown in the first three photographs, with only one available.

Looking after the oak
